They will not go quietly,
the Cats who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a scratch at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them ...
and always will.
the Cats who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a scratch at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them ...
and always will.

This is a very touching poem.
And a very sorrow week, too.
It's not winter, but cold truth happening again and again...it's really sad...
We could only purr and purr for each other and for their families...and live well, for our great friends.
That was lovely!
That is a lovely tribute to Kali
Beautiful tribute to Kali.

Purrrrrs,
Sanjee and the rest of the Hotties
What a sweet tribute to spunky Kali!
I love that poem. We still have the dishes and such for Victor, but when I lost Bigotes and eventually, Scruffy, the house seemed so empty. Bigotes died in 1987, 15 years old, and Mom still steps around where his dishes should be in the kitchen.
Purrs and hugs,
Tabbymom Jen & Victor
That was very beautiful. I am hoping that we do not have to say goodbye to any more of our sweet friends for a very long time.
That was a very touching poem.
