Thoughts on Thursday

Well, maybe not a thought as much as a concern. Mommy's a bit worried about my rear end. Ever since they got home from their trip to Catifornia she noticed that I'm missing furs on half my tummy and tocks. Now I'm not too worried about it, but Mommy is a bit concerned that it's not growing back, but it's not getting worse.

I'm furry embarrassed about this (Tazo, please avert your eyes) but here's my tummy:

Does any kitty (or kitty Mommy or Daddy) have any advice to get me to quit? Mommy's worrying is starting to make me a bit worried.

Also, it's been super crazy cold here in the Mitten State (in the single digits and in the minuses with wind chill). Would you all mind taking a minute to purr for all the homeless puppies and kitties out there? We're very furry worried for them all.

Thanks,
Bert

Hi PB&J...we're sorry you're losing your fur-this has sometimes happened to Perf-but we never knew what it was....maybe stress?? Perfy seems to get agitated and gets bothered by stuff easily!!

We hope you feel better!!

Oh no, sorry to hear that you are licking your fur off. Sorry I don't have any good advice for stopping it. I wish I did.

I don't know anything about the missing fur problem, either, I'm afraid. I hope you get your problem solved, Bert. I will certainly say a little prayer for the homeless dogs and cats in the bitter cold.

We are worried about all of the poor homeless animals too...
And as for your fur, has there been a change in your life? Are you stressed about something?

Maybe you was just upset that your beans went away so you licked it all off. Shadow does that sometimes too and then he has to wear the donut collar to stop him. He says it itchies when the hair grows back. Maybe you could ask Tigmuthep's Mommy for some suggestions. He licks his tummy furs off too.

We hope your fur grows back, Bert! And fast. We don't know what to suggest except the stress factor thing. You're not bored, are you?

I think you should check out Tigmut'hep's blog. His mom made him a custom onesie to keep his tummy furs from being groomed off!

We are definitely purring and praying for all those homeless kitties who are out in the bitter cold. Bless them!

Sorry to hear about the fur loss. Cal has had this happen to him for the last two years in different areas of his body. The first time it happend on the back of the neck the vet diagnosed it as feline endocrine alopecia and gave him a depo medrol injection and the furs grew back soon after. Last year the furs on his face were disappearing. This time our mom starting giving him Halo's Dream Coat everyday and the furs grew back. Could be stress or allergies maybe? Best of luck and we purray your furs grow back real soon!

Maybe it was too stressful when yoor beans were away? Our vet sed once dat cats furs grow in cycles and sometimes our old Punkin would get her grooming and da furs would take a long time to grow back and sometimes dey would grow back really fast.

Mama covered my eyes, so I couldn't see your tummy (darn!). We don't have any suggestions about your furs. We do think that tummy furs take FOREVER to grow back. EG's tummy furs took almost a year to reach the same length as the not shaved part (after his tummy surgery). I will come over and cuddle with you and help you keep your tummy warm.

Love and whiskie kissies,
Tazo

Stress and/or allergies. Our tuxie aunt & uncle both have the problem. It doesn't bother them at all but hopefully you stop now that your humans are back!

Bert my friend, I hate to say it, but I think this requires a visit to the VET to have your skin & fur checked.

We thinks the fur loss is either stress or allergies...you may hafta go to the v-e-t and see what they say...we hope you can figure it out so your furs will grow back!

A naked tummy? Be careful that it doesn't get too cold. Lots of purrs for every living being who spends time outside in the nasty cold weather.

Bert, what are you doing to yourself? I wish I had some advice, but I don't know what to tell you. Good luck.

Oh boy I think you're heading for the onesie's just like our Tigmut'hep... The thing is that grooming feels good and releases endorphins this is to help make us want to groom and is all good and that, but some cats get hooked on the endorphin high and start down the path to over grooming (you know I've been reading up on it with My Mummy). This usually is triggered off by some form or stress or an allergic reaction to something, but the kitty in question gets a liking for the feelings the grooming to excess gives... While this is kinda nice for the kitty to feel good all the time, it makes them look all bald and they get very sicky too with all the nasty hairballs! :( The first thing to try is Feliway to see if the lovely smell makes the kitty feel better, this quite often works with kitties who don't have an addictive personality (if like Tigmut'hep they're a 'nip junky already there's little home). Next talk to your vet and get him to make sure that the kitty is not sick in any other way. He may have ideas, but basically you've just got to break the habit and fast if you can! So it's either a conehead for a while or you get your Mom to make you some super cute onesies like Tigmut'hep has and wait for the grumping to start! ;) Oh and watch for anything fluffy they might groom when they can't get to their little bald belly and legs... Honestly you'd be horrified if you knew all the things Tigmut'hep has groomed looking for a "fix" ;)

Hope this helps!

Purrs,
Ramses
