Man Cat Adventure

It was such a busy Friday (and weekend) that I didn't have a chance to tell the story of my big adventure Thursday night (well, that and Mommy was kinda freaked out about it!).

Thursday night, after Mommy and Daddy went to bed Georgie kept whining and running around the sun room. They kept yelling at her to be quiet and go to bed - which she eventually did. But she kept doing that, all night long. So needless to say Mommy and Daddy didn't get much sleep.

Friday morning Mommy woke up and started rounding all of us up for breakfast. She got Bert up from his bed and said good morning to Pearl then she started looking for me (which is a bit strange because I usually have to wake her up). Mommy started looking downstairs and Daddy started looking under the bed (another favorite hiding place). Finally Mommy started to panic - then she heard Daddy holler "Oh Cr*p!" as he ran for the front door.

Daddy opened the front door and starts calling for me, and I came running across the yard from under the big pine tree next door. I was so happy to see that they had finally opened the door! George had been right all along, there was something trying to get into the house all night - me!

So Mommy and Daddy picked me up (and Mommy was crying a lot!) and checked to see if anything was cut or broken or frozen. Happily it had been a fairly mild night (only down into the 20s) and I found a good place to curl up under the tree that didn't have much snow. I did scratch my pads a bit, Mommy is guessing that I tried to paw the screen door too much, but that was it!

Then Mommy started getting mad at Daddy, asking him why he let me out without telling her about it. He said that he had opened the basement door for a minute to check on a strange sound before he went to bed and that I must have gotten out without him seeing (which is a bit hard given the fact that I am 16 floofy pounds of kitty!). Since it's winter and we don't go out very much when it's so cold, Mommy didn't do a head count before bed - so no one but the dog realized that I was missing all night.

In the end everything was fine - Mommy called the V-E-T and they said just to keep an eye on my pads and also the tip of my tail and ears for any signs of frostbite (I had a little snow on my tail, but my ears were nice and warm when I came home). So I just ate a big breakfast (which was twice what I normally get since they both felt so bad) and went to sleep on the big bed, which is where I should have been all night long!

They keep giving me extra stinky goodness because they feel guilty - they don't know it, but I already have, of course it doesn't mean that I'm not going to take extra food!

- Jake

PS - Thank you all for such wonderful Birthday wishes - Bert and Mommy both had super days!

Oh Jake! We are so happy that you are ok! One of us getting outside is our mom and dad's biggest worry. I hope your little pads are getting better.

Please tell Bert and your mommy Happy Birthday for me! Sorry it's late, but Mom and dad were out of town, and turned the computer off so I couldn't go around blogging all weekend.

Take care and stay warm!

I'm glad that you're ok and that you got lots of love and snacks. And I'm a little jealous that you got to be outside. I would love to be outside all night. That would totally rock!

What a scary night!! At least you didn't wander too far away. The Women get so upset about these things and always blame the men.

I am sooooo glad you are OK. I stay out all night every night in summer and even most winter nights but it is never very cold where I live.

Oh my goodness Jake! How scary! We are glad you are okay! We are very happy to be indoor-only cats (except on our harness or in our stroller). We don't think we'd survive as well in the cold as you did!

Oh, what a terrible adventure. You could have frozen out there? Guess this means you don't have a cell phone either. It would be so much easier to phone home with one, wouldn't it?

Glad you're okay.

Silly beans they should have listened to George.

I sleep outside sometimes, but only when it is really nice outside. Mommy is always annoyed when I decide to go AWOL at supper time. ~Socks

PS: The girls would never dream of sleeping outside.
