Thursday Thirteen #11

This Thursday Thirteen is for our Daddy.... Thirteen Reasons we need a water fountain:

1. We really do prefer fresh water to old water.

2. If we had a fountain we wouldn't make you change our water two and three times a day.

3. If we had a fountain Bert wouldn't have to get his bum wet sitting in the laundry sink to drink.

4. We wouldn't knock over the dog's water pitcher trying to get a drink.

5. George wouldn't get mad at us for stealing her water.

6. You wouldn't have to yell at us for getting in the kitchen sink after dinner.

7. We'd waste less water because Mommy wouldn't have to leave both bathroom sinks dribbling every morning.

8. Maybe if we had a fountain Pearl could play in that instead of splashing her feet in your coffee in the morning.

9. Jake wouldn't have to get his big floofy ruff all wet trying to drink out of the sink.

10. Jake and Bert wouldn't play king of the vanity when they both try to drink at the same time.

11. Mommy wouldn't have to referee the fights between Jake and Bert when they try to drink at the same time.

12. They really aren't that expensive (see!).

13. We really, really, really want one!

Thanks for listening Daddy!

- Pearl, Bert, Jake and Mommy

P.S. - Thanks everykitty for your nice thoughts yesterday, it really helped Mommy on a rough day!

Sad Day

Today is a sad day for Mommy and Daddy - two years ago today my big brother Basil went to the Bridge. Mommy still misses her cuddly, tuxie boy every day - and so do I.

This was one of his favorite sleeping spots - curled up in the sheets.

He was always very good with George.

And he was very tolerant of his Bean Cousin.

And he trained me to be the good ManCat that I am today.

A handsome fellow.

And playful too!

Tuxedo Tuesday

There I am - trying hard to balance on the door! I think the problem is the door, it's too thin, it's not a regular door. Hmm, I wonder if I could get to one of the regular doors from here....

- Bert

P.S. pay no attention to Mommy's messy craft cupboard!

Monday Memes

Today is all about me, no me, no me! We got tagged for three memes this week, so here's a bunch more stuff about us!!! We also decided to let George join in, since we've got so much to tell.

My darling Dante tagged us for the nickname meme.

Here are the rules for the Nicknames Meme:
Post a link to the kitty who tagged you, and post the rules on your blog. List your real name, how you got your real name, nicknames you like/tolerate, and nicknames you wish your humans would stop calling you. Tag several kitties, and write a comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged.

Pearl
How I got my name: There are two possibilities for how I got my name , either I was named after the ship from Pirates of the Caribbean, the Black Pearl or I was named after the octopus in Finding Nemo. You can take your pick.

Nicknames I like: Princessa, Principessa, Pufferella, Precious, Little Tortois (you've got to say it kind of french-like), Wee One, Sweet P, Littlest One, Pearly Mae, Mae-Mae, Mae-Malay.

Nicknames I don't like: Beaker (cause sometimes I make little noises like Beaker from the Muppet show), Loud-Mouth, Principessa Whiny-Pants.

Bert
How I got my name: I was named after Bert from Mary Poppins. Mommy says it's because I'm almost all black like a chimney sweep, but I think it's cause Mary Poppins is one of Mommy's favorite movies.

Nicknames I like: Boy-o, Boy Boy, Boyoski, Mitten Man, Mr. Mustachio, Bots, Bots-Dots, Bertamus Maximus (or Bertamus Minamus when he was little).

Nicknames I don't like: Dirty Bert, Squirty (ok once I had a little litter box issue, but that's no reason to keep calling me that!), Lamby-kins.

Jake
How I got my name: It took a long time for Mommy and Daddy to come up with my name. But they finally named me after the seagull in Rescuers Down Under.

Nicknames I like: Ja-ja (sort of like Zsa-Zsa Gabor), Jaj, Digger, Dig, Big Dig, Jakey Bo-Bo, Bo-Bo, Boboski, Nomojijo, Jingle Jake and Squebunk.

Nicknames I don't like: Jerk (Mommy calls me that when I'm picking on the kittens), Nudge, Mr. Poo-Pants.

George
How I got my name: I am named after the fox terrier from the movie Bringing Up Baby. It's Mommy's all time favorite movie and she thought it would be a perfect choice, even though I'm a girl.

Nicknames I like: Georgie, Georgie Girl, Puppy Girl, Baby Puppy, Georgie Porgie, Georgie Porgie Puddin Pie, Puddin, Georgie Jumping Bean, Snow-Nose, Pupcicle and Super-pup.

Nicknames I don't like: Poo, Super-Poo, Devil Dawg and NO! (I get called that one a lot!)

We haven't done this meme before, but here's the story of how we got our names and here's a 7 things meme that we did on other nicknames!

Then Abby, Boo, Jinx, Ping and Gracie tagged us!. This meme was created by the charming cats at http://www.petspics.blogspot.com/. The rules are: you have to post who tagged you and link back to them and then to petspics.blogspot.com. Then you have to tag 3 other kitties, beans, woofies, or any other assorted animal. What three things would you do that you have never done before, if you knew you wouldn't get caught, get in trouble, or suffer any consequences?

1. I'd break into the refrigerator (or as I like to call it - the Great White Feeding Parent) and eat all the food and nips that are in there. - Jake

2. I'd get up on the vanity and knock all of Mommy's rings and earrings off. - Pearl

3. I'd run around the house and chase all the kitties and eat all the food off the counter and pull all the cushions down off the sofa and eat them. - George

(I chose not to put anything down, cause I'm a really good kitty and Mommy and Daddy never yell at me, ever. - Bert)

And then Skeeter,LC & Ayla tagged us for the 7 weird things meme.

1. Bert never gets yelled at (really he's a perfect little guy).

2. Jake jumps up on the counter and eats the butter if Mommy and Daddy forget to cover it.

3. Pearl likes to sleep in the kitty tent when it's upside down.

4. George runs and gets her bone when a kitty walks in the room, she's afraid we'll steal it!

5. Jake wears a jingle bell on his collar cause he used to get lost when he was little and Mommy and Daddy needed it to find him.

6. Pearl loves to put her feet in plates to try and get the food off.

7. Bert likes to sit under the window and watch the birds (Mommy's not quite sure how he can see the birds from where he sits, but that's his birdwatching spot!).

Wow - that's a lot of information about us! Now we now that a lot of you kitties have done some (if not all) of these memes, so feel free to do them if you like. We would like to tag all those new kittens out there for these (just think of all the silly nicknames that could get started!)!

Purrs,
Pearl, Bert, Jake and George

Thursday Thirteen #10

Alright, alright - so Pearl let the "cat" out of the bag and now everyone knows that I have a kitty crush on Tazo!

So I thought I'd do a Thursday Thirteen list to prove what a perfect match Tazo and I are:

1. We're about the same age - I'm about to be two, Tazo is already two.
2. We both love woofies.
3. I am gainfully employed as a report for the TGH (so I can buy plenty of nip and temptations).
4. She loves cereal and I love cereal (lots of milk - no oatmeal please)
5. She matches her woofie and I match my woofie.
6. She's Grey and White and I'm Black and White
7. We both have grumpy big ManCat brothers.
8. She has a Mitten shape on her back - I have white mittens.
9. We both live in the Mitten state!
10. She likes to play Thundering Herd of Elephants - I sound like a thundering herd of elephants all by myself.
11. Neither one of us like snow.
12. She has a little grey tip on one toe and I have a little white tip on my tail.
13. We both have microchips - so she could always find me and I could always find her!

So, if that doesn't prove that I'm worthy of the sweet Tazo I don't know what will.

I gotta go now - Pearl's been in hiding since yesterday cause she knows I'm gonna put the smack-down on her! Didn't Sammy say we were supposed to practice our whapping?!?!

Wordy Wednesday

Oh we were all set to do a Wordless Wednesday, but then I found this in our email:
    Dear Queen Snickers,

My name is Bert - I'm Jake's little brother, and I'm looking for love. Pearl has Dante, and well, I think you know that Jake is sweet on you - and since I'm about to be two I think I'd like a girlfriend too!

I sort of have my eye on a pretty lady cat, but I'm not sure if she likes me too! And there are all sorts of pretty girl cats on your Love Cafe, it's hard to decide. What should I do? Should I tell Tazo that I think she's pretty spiffy (and she loves her woofie too like I love mine) - or should I try my luck with another kitty?

I've attached my most handsome mancat picture for the love cafe just in case!

    Purrs,
    Bert

Well Tazo, girls? He's out there - and even though he's my little brother - he would be a pretty good catch, go take a look!

Hee hee - boy are Jake and Bert gonna be mad at me when they see this!!!!!

Tuxedo Tribute

We had already posted our Monday post when we found out about Caesar, so we wanted to make sure and do a proper Tuxedo Tribute to him today.

"When sorrows come, they come not single spies, but in battalions".
- Hamlet Quote Act IV, Scene V

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.

I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.

I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.

I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I did not die.

Caesar, you were a new friend to us, but it is clear that the Cat Blogosphere will be less without your voice, and it's hard to lose a friend - new or old.

We're sending purrs to Princess and your Mommy and Daddy during this difficult time.

Happy Gotcha Day Pearl!

Pearl's Mommy here today, it's Pearl's gotcha day today so I thought I'd tell the story of how we got her!

Two years ago we decided to get a new kitten. We had been without a "P" kitty for a while (it's hard to be PB&J without a P) and were ready for a new edition. I had been researching rescue groups on PetFinder for a while, and finally found a picture of a little floofy tortoiseshell kitten that caught my eye. I called the lady immediately and asked about the kitten named Domino. She said that she was still getting over an upper respiratory infection, but if we wanted to come the next weekend she could probably be adopted.

So Friday night came and we were both so excited for the next morning, we sat down with Jake and Basil (this was before Bert) and George and told them that we were going to be bringing them a new little sister. We were happy that PB&J would be back together again, they seemed less than thrilled! When Saturday came we awoke to a winter wonderland - it had snowed 6 inches overnight, but we braved the weather, cleared the driveway and and got in the car for the hour drive to the shelter.

Once we got there we met with the lady and met Domino, her eyes were a bit gooey still and she was very skittish. When we approached her she ran away and hid with her sister. All of a sudden we weren't sure that she was the right one. So we sat and played with all the other kittens - seeing which would be the one to come home with us. I kept looking at Domino, disappointed since she was the one I had had my heart set on, but clearly she didn't want us.

As I was trying to decide between two little black kittens my hubby, knowing that I was having a hard time deciding, went back to Domino and just picked her up! He talked to her and pet her a bit, then all of a sudden yelled to me "Hey Honey, she's licking me!". So I rushed over and sure enough she was purring and licking his fingers (which she still does when she's happy) - we both turned to the lady and said "We'll take her!".

That's how we got our Pearl, and we couldn't be happier! Happy Gotcha Day Little One!

Much Love,
Mommy

P.S. We only just read about dear Caesar, tomorrow we will do our Tuxie Tuesday to honor him.

Floofy Friday

It's super cold here today, so I'm just going to snuggle in for a warm nap (as soon as Mommy puts the flashy box away). See, sometimes it pays to be floofy!

Thankful Thursday

We thought we'd take this Thursday to be thankful for all the good things...

  • Thankful for the safe return of Mao and Annie.

  • Thankful for Latte being well again (though were still worried about his Meowmy).

  • Thankful that Tesla's lumps aren't lumps at all.

  • Thankful that we're finally getting back to a normal routine with the holidays over.

  • Thankful for our cool souvenir from Karl & Ruis' trip to Antarctica, we've named him "Dinner" cause he looks like a Macaroni Penguin!

  • Thankful for all our wonderful friends in the Cat Blogosphere.

And thankful for more awards:

Our sweet friend Tesla gave us another "Thinking Blogger" Award!

And our dear friend Chancy gave us a "You Made My Day" Award!

So, with the Thinking Blogger - since a lot of the kitty bloggers already have them, we'd like to give this to any other kitty that doesn't have one - cause we're all great bloggers and we all make others think (think that we're taking over the blogosphere that is).

As for the the You Make My Day here are our choices:

Pearl - well of course I award this to my sweet Dante, his posts always make my day!

Jake - I love reading lots of the kitties blogs, but I'd like to give this award two kitties: old friends (the first ever to leave a comment on our bloggie) Samantha & Tigger, and a new friend Queen Snickers *sigh*.

Bert - Jeesh you two! Mooning over other kitties! I'd like to give mine to the Furry Kids, because I think Titus looks like a cool woofie, EG is clearly a cool ManCat and well Tazo is pretty and she can handle her nip!

And of course we're always thankful for our Mommy and Daddy and our forever home with them.

Funny Friday

We got tagged for another 7 things meme from Chancy, since we did one recently, today we're going to do 7 weird things that Mommy calls us. Now you have to understand that our Mommy is very creative and comes up with some strange names, so we've done our best to describe how she came about these names. And there are lots of crazy names that she calls us, these are just a few...

1. Bertie Botts Every Flavored Kitty - Well they call me Bertie Botts all the time (you know, the candy from Harry Potter), but one day when I had just come in from outside, she picked me up and said I smelled like grass - just like the grass flavored Bertie Botts Every Flavored Beans.

2. Digger Digowski - That one is kind of easy, I was digging around in the blankets on the bed, trying to get under the covers. But instead of calling me "Digger Jake" somehow it turned into that, she also calls me just Digger, or Big Dig - and there are even more!

3. Principessa Puffy-Pants - I suppose that doesn't take much translation, I am the Princess (Principessa is the Italian word for Princess) and I do have very puffy pants. Mommy looked up the full Italian translation and it's "pantaloni del soffio della principessa" - I think I'd like to change it to that, what do you think?

4. Bertamious T. Dumb-Bunny - Mommy and Daddy both call Me Bertamious all the time, I can be so dignified sometimes that Bert doesn't quite cover it. But one day I was acting kind of silly and I was running around in circles and bunny kicking everything - I got a little dizzy and bumped into the table leg. That's when she called me that, but I haven't done anything so silly in a long time, but she still calls me that!

5. Nudge-y Noo-noo - in Yiddish a Nudge (pronounced noodge) is "One who persistently pesters, annoys, or complains". And well, when it comes to the stinky goodness I suppose that can be the case. And she does call me the Nudge, but then she had to go one step too far.

6. Swirly Girl - I have swirly furrs, and I can swirl my tail around in funny circles and Swirl rhymes with Pearl, see makes perfect sense to me.

7. Pup-cicle - That's one that Mommy calls George, but only in winter. George loves to go out and play in the snow - she wouldn't even come in if they didn't make her! So when she comes in she's covered in snow and chilly - a pup-cicle!

Ok, now the hard part, we've got to tag seven kitties (but this is going around a lot so we understand if you may have already done this!):

1. Daisy
2. Bonnie and Victor (hopefully they can share the list?!)
3. Fat Eric
4. Kimo & Sabi (maybe they can tell us more about Kiera)
5. Sultanfus and Guy
6. Henry Helton
7. Little Cat Zee

Don't forget the rules:
Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a notification on their blog.

Wordy Wednesday

Oh yeah - I've got words for you woman (nope, not even going to call you Mommy today) - lots of them.

Let's start with the fact that I was a nice boy and let you oversleep this morning. I didn't bug you for breakfast, I didn't sit on your bladder, I didn't bite your eyebrows, I didn't tap dance on your head - I was a good boy. So how do you reward me? With the wrong stinky goodness, that's how! You know that I don't like any thing that's got rice in it, and you know that I don't like anything sliced or with gravy - but that's what you gave me. So I had to sit there and just watch Pearl and Bert eat, it's just not fair. You didn't even open an extra can just for me!

I suppose that I could have gotten over the food thing, but then you had to cut my nails! And worse yet you had to call it "Mani/Pedi" - that's just not manly. Now I know they've been getting a bit sharp and I scratched you the other day when we were playing, but that is serious insult to injury! Offering a nice hand full of treats was the least you could do.

It's hard to get over so many things in one morning, I was trying hard, then you shut my head in the refrigerator! I know it was an accident and I know if I hadn't been crawling in the fridge trying to find the nip it wouldn't have happened - but it did and now I'm mad!

I know you'll try to make it up to me tonight, extra stinky goodness or extra greenies, but it's not going to work. We're going to have more words about this - probably tomorrow morning around 5am, at top volume, while I sit on your bladder. Oh yes, there will be more words...

-Jake

P.S. We got tagged for another 7 things meme from Chancy - we'll do it soon, promise.

Thinking on Tuesday

Wow - we got another award! Thank you so much to Sultanfus and Guy, for giving it to us! We're glad we make you think :-)

And we do like to think, why just this morning Jake was thinking about how to get in the refrigerator to get the nips and Bert was thinking about how to get out the back door to when the birdies were having their breakfast.

Here are the rules:
1. You must write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think. (No fish or bird blogs, they'll just make you hungry)

2. Acknowledge this post.

3. Optional: Proudly display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote.

4. Go tell your humans to fork over the treats!

Here are our nominations for the Thinking Award:
Tybalt

Jasper and all the McKitten-Cats

MoMo

Mr. Hendrix

and of course, Sir Dante, well and Capt. Jack too (but Pearl thinks about Dante a lot! )

We're off to demand our treats!!

-Pearl, Bert and Jake

P.S. We apologize for not being around more to visit will all our friends - Mommy's got a whole bunch of excuses, but we're gonna put the bitey on her today and make her help us!

ManCat Monday

Yep, even in a purple tent playing with a pink toy and a feather boa I'm still one tough man cat (well kind of anyway)!

Thanks Pearl & Jan!

Wow - what a great weekend, Pearl gave me an award and Jan tagged us for a meme! So many great things.

First things first! My spiffy new award...

The Extraordinary Gold Star Award was created by - Storm, The Furry Fighter - and is for Bloggers who have achieved or done something special. The award celebrates beyond what is ordinary or usual.

1) Post the explanation and rules of the award and link back to the blogger who presented you with the award and repeat the reason why you received it.

2) Pass the Award on to two other Bloggers who you fink deserve it and explain why!

Well, there are so many deserving kitties out there - but if I had to choose two I think it would have to be Chancy, who continues to blog even after loosing Ernie (plus she's a very pretty kitty!) and Chase, for being such an amazing injured kitty ambassador (though I'm sure she's gotten then award before).

Now, onto the meme. Here are the rules:

Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog. Share seven random and/or weird facts about yourself. Tag seven random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs. Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a notification on their blog.

So here are our 7 weird things we do:
1. Pearl can run around the ottoman - on the side of the ottoman!
2. Bert likes to hid under the table at dinner time and come out only when his dish is down.
3. Jake likes to attack the sheets while Mommy and Daddy make the bed.
4. Pearl always licks and bites fingers when she's "making biscuits" on a lap.
5. Jake prefers to sit in the kitty tent head first (with his big old butt sticking out!).
6. Bert will only sleep on the big bed if he sleeps on Mommy or her clothes.
7. George has to move her bed and blankets around at night before she goes to sleep.

We'd like to tag Dante and Capt. Jack, Tybalt, Merlin (he might never have been tagged) and Dragonheart (if he's feeling better), Parker, the Furry Kids, Tesla, and Jasper and the McKitten-Cats.

-Pearl, Bert, Jake and George

I Feel So Honored

Oh my goodness! My Darling Dante has passed on this wonderful award:

The Extraordinary Gold Star Award was created by - Storm, The Furry Fighter - and is for Bloggers who have achieved or done something special. The award celebrates beyond what is ordinary or usual.

1) Post the explanation and rules of the award and link back to the blogger who presented you with the award and repeat the reason why you received it.

2) Pass the Award on to two other Bloggers who you fink deserve it and explain why!

I wish that I could say that I've done more to deserve such a wonderful award. My Daddy says that I did survive two very bad cases of parasites as well as multiple ear and upper respiratory infections when I was little - so maybe that counts. And my Mommy says that I had some very big paw prints to fill when Purdy went over the bridge and I came here to my Forever home. In either case, I'll do my best to continue earning it!

As for who to pass it onto next, that's a tough one, but I have an idea...

I would like to pass it on to Midnite & Stray Kitty at Astor Cats, since they are trying to help their Mommy through a tough situation with the nasty neighbor.

The other kitty I'd like to pass it on to - my brother Jake. Seems strange I know, since we don't always get along. But when Jake was a wee bitty baby (the V-E-T said he was about three weeks) he toddled out of a shrub to find our Mommy, he had been abandoned by his Kitty-Mommy. I think that it was very extraordinary to go out and find a new Mommy!

I'm sure Jake will find some wonderful kitties to pass his star onto too!
